At SULLIVAN, We Don’t Just Meet Today’s
Current Standards. We Far Exceed Them

Not just anyone should provide your HVAC services in West Michigan. Unless your provider knows their job inside and out, they can do more harm than good.

All qualified contractors have one must-have in common: They hold the federal certification legally required for heating and cooling professionals.

At SULLIVAN Heating Cooling Plumbing, we think that’s a great start. But it’s not enough.

That’s why we require all our key personnel to obtain two additional, voluntary certifications.

When a SULLIVAN crew is on the job, you can rest assured you’re getting all the advantages of a higher standard for quality and safety.

EPA Standards For HVAC Service Providers

Chemicals called refrigerants are the lifeblood of any modern HVAC system. Unfortunately, refrigerants pose a serious hazard to the environment when handled incorrectly.

How should your chosen provider manage this risk?

By following the Environmental Protection Agency guidelines commonly known as EPA 608. These guidelines mandate that all technicians follow certain safety procedures when handling refrigerants.

This not only protects the environment. It protects your health and safety, as well as that of your service provider.

Only pros who pass an EPA-administered test can earn their 608 certification.

Our EPA-Compliant Heating and Cooling Services

Do all HVAC companies meet the standards set by EPA 608? It would be great if they did. But in West Michigan and elsewhere, you’ll find providers who don’t fulfill this essential obligation.

Of course, we do at SULLIVAN.

All new hires must either hold 608 certification or be working toward it. And at all times, they work alongside crew leaders who are already fully certified.

The end result for you? Proper handling of all chemicals and the highest possible level of safety for your local home.

NATE-Certified Professionals For West Michigan

EPA 608 is the only legally mandated certification for Michigan HVAC service providers. But does it really do enough to ensure that you and your household get the help you need?

We don’t think so.

That’s why all SULLIVAN crew leaders are also certified by an organization called NATE (North American Technician Excellence).

NATE provides training designed to increase professional standards throughout the industry. It backs up this training with expert-level exams. Pros who pass these exams can earn separate certificates in installation and system servicing.

It can take anywhere from three months to a full year to reach NATE-level proficiency.

The Benefits Of NATE-Certified HVAC Pros

Why do we require NATE certification? HVAC service techs and installers who meet the organization’s standards are exceptionally well-trained.

Not only must they pass their initial exams. They must take at least 16 hours of continuing education courses every two years.

This means that each SULLIVAN crew leader’s skills are finely honed and razor-sharp.

When we say we’re experts in our field, it’s not an empty slogan. It’s a well-documented fact.

OSHA Standards For HVAC Contractors

But that’s still not enough for us. SULLIVAN technicians also hold a second voluntary credential.

This credential comes from OSHA (the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration). OSHA’s mission is to make job sites in every industry as safe as possible.

How do they do this in the HVAC industry?

One step is offering what’s known as OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 certification. OSHA 10 is a 10-hour course on best safety practices for heating and cooling pros. OSHA 30 is a longer, more comprehensive 30-hour course.

Our In-House OSHA Standards

OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 aren’t mandatory in Michigan. But they are at SULLIVAN.

All new hires are required to complete them before performing any potentially dangerous job site tasks. That includes seemingly basic things like climbing tall ladders.

They’re also not allowed to touch refrigerants or any other hazardous material.

The law says that we don’t have to take these steps. But they’re the only way to meet our obligations as your safe, reliable HVAC specialists.

What’s one sure sign of excellence? Professional certification.
